About Micronovo Technologies
We are experts in contaminated soil, groundwater and surface water remediation using microbiology!
Founded in 2012 by Professor Mike Manefield at the University of NSW (UNSW Sydney), Micronovo Pty Ltd was created to make cutting-edge industry-backed research developments in bioremediation commercially available to the Australian contaminated land and groundwater industry. For over a decade, Micronovo has been enabling environmental consultants, contractors, and government organisations to confidently select and optimise bioremediation solutions for contaminated sites across Australia.
In 2017 Micronovo Pty Ltd formed a joint venture (Novorem Pty Ltd) with Enretech Australasia Pty Ltd becoming fully independent of UNSW Sydney. Enretech Australasia Pty Ltd changed ownership in 2022 and then entered receivership in 2024, causing Novorem to cease operating.
Micronovo Technologies Pty Ltd was re-established as a fully independent business, commencing operations in May 2024 from our new laboratory facilities (leased from Orica) at the Botany Industrial Park. This has been a return home for Micronovo as it is where our seed inocula for our famous chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon-degrading cultures (AusPCE, AusDCA and AusCF) were originally derived. See Mike's post on the establishment of Micronovo Technologies Pty Ltd.
Micronovo Technologies Pty Ltd is the exclusive licensee for Professor Mike Manefield's Intellectual Property. We continue to provide the Australian remediation industry with expert analysis, advice, and Mike's famous bioaugmentation cultures for bioremediation of contaminated land and groundwater.
We have also expanded into amendment supply, simplifying the bioremediation process. Our mission is to make bioremediation straightforward and reliable, promoting the understanding and application of these eco-friendly, sustainable remediation techniques throughout Australia. We also continue to serve as a conduit for commercialisation of UNSW research in the remediation industry, keeping the industry up to date and academic research relevant to real-world challenges.
Most of our clients are Environmental Consultants or Contractors focused on bioremediation of sites contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH fractions, PAHs, BTEX) or chlorinated solvents (PCE, TCE, DCA, CF), we also support various industries, including:
-
Infrastructure: addressing microbial corrosion of steel and concrete structures;
-
Aquaculture: supply cultures essential to fish health, waste digestion, nitrogen cycling and pathogen inhibition;
-
Agriculture: enhancing soil health, profiling microbe pathogens (fungal and bacterial); and inhibiting pathogens.
-
Microcosm studies: conducting contract scientific studies that support research in diverse fields, from livestock feed supplements to kinetic studies for industrial bioreactor design.
Our core capabilities encompass:
-
Micro-diagnostics
-
Microcosm treatability bench-testing
-
Microbe strain identification, isolation, propagation, and application to solve industrial challenges
-
Expertise and amendments to establish, stimulate, and manage the necessary microbes for various applications.
Kids education
Our passion for the microverse and extends to our mission to inspire the next generation of microbiology experts! Professor Mike Manefield goes beyond teaching university undergraduates and supervising PhD students; he also crafts delightful illustrated children's books and engaging jigsaw puzzles to ignite a love for the micro-universe in young minds!
